ASAKUSA: HOME OF TEMPURA
ARCHITECT PAUL BEJAR
Named after a district in Tokyo laden with tempura restaurants, Asakusa: Home of Tempura is a fusion of contemporary streamlined design and a touch of traditional Japanese aesthetic. Guests are welcomed to an inviting dining space accented with geometric wooden patterns across the ceiling and window, a unifying design element across the restaurant’s blueprint. Minimalist concrete walls ground the area, providing a modern Zen finish that juxtaposes the interior’s wood elements. The busy open kitchen and adjacent wall partition are elevated through a play of stain-varnished local wood slabs conscientiously applied to each panel. This practical yet thoughtful design and display of craftsmanship throughout the restaurant is a testament to the authentic dining experience that awaits at Asakusa.
