MODERN KUBO
A. MAÑOSA ARCHITECTS
Taking inspiration from the unique details of a traditional bahay kubo, this residential project features Architect Gelo Mañosa’s signature Contemporary Filipino design. While the structure is thoroughly modern and is outfitted with state-of-the-art innovations (Kenneth & Mock PVC doors and windows, solar panels for power and water heaters, as well as an updated modular kitchen), it is enhanced with distinct Philippine design elements seen in the weaved ceiling finish made of abaca, a convenient dish-drying slot—similar to a banggerahan present in ancestral homes, and other local materials like narra planks for flooring and yakal-wood eaves props. Though the lot area is more compact than others, the home’s design maximizes the 350sqm available and allows for an open and seamless layout.
